Mad Men's "Joanie," a.k.a. Christina Henrickson wed Geoffrey Arend in a ceremony with a vintage flare. Her bridesmaids all donned vintage gowns, each unique from the other. Since this post, I've noticed other bloggers reflecting on this notable change in traditional bridal party attire (including this photo below).
What are your thoughts? Stick with dresses of the same hue or let your bridesmaids express their creativity? I'm very curious... images/once wed

Oh this is awesome!! I give her so much credit for doing something different. I would totally do this, the different bridemaids dresses. It would make the wedding more fun i think!!
I have to say, I love different colored bridesmaid dresses. I also love different shades of the same color. Either way, I think it looks better when each bridesmaid wears a different style that is best suited for her.
i definitely love different bridesmaids dresses. so much more fun! xo
i love having each girl pick a dress that fits their personality. i am getting married this fall and let my bridesmaids pick any knee length dress in the marine-navy color range. so far we have two different ones from priscilla of boston, on from h&m and one from banana republic. i cannot wait to see how it all comes together. i figure if my maids are more comfortable in a dress of their own choice, they are going to have more fun and have more confidence (making the pictures turn out better -- i hope)!
I think it's such a brilliant idea! It means the bridesmaids are probably much more comfortable as well ;)
That is such a gorgeous idea and end result! Everyone looks so beautiful. :)
LOVE LOVE these looks. what a fabulous idea!
love it. personally i want my bridesmaids in the same color dress but still like the different ones!
i love the idea of letting one's bridesmaids express their own sense of style. i am of the vein, though, of trying to keep the dresses at least in the same color, or within a theme of colors.
that being said, these pictures sure did make me smile!
i like the idea of different, 'quirky' dresses for each girl! so many of the traditional bridesmades dresses arent all that stylish, or well cut and seem horribly over priced! its much nicer to have everyone looking pretty in something they love! id hate to think i had made my dearest friends wear something they didnt feel lovely in/though was ugly/didnt suit them!
its great to see people rebelling against the standard 'wedding industry' expectations of a carbon cut, lilac (replace with colour of season) white wedding!
x.
I love those bridesmaids dresses!
I admire people's bravery and creativity in ignoring the conventions, but I'm too OCD for that. I need some consistency: either same color or same style. But, I'm open to letting my bridesmaids pick what suits them within those parameters... like, I love brides who pick a color then let their friends choose styles that fit them best. Everyone looks much better that way!
my bridesmaids dresses were all different, but all brown (various shades...whatever they wanted) and knee length. it doesn't sound like that would offer a lot of varition, but it really did. some had straps, one was made of brocade fabric (almost like upholstery fabric), one of silk, one was vintage. my wedding was green and brown, so i don't think i could've pulled off letting them choose ANY color, but it was fun, and they all got to keep dresses they'd actually want to wear later.
oh...and happy birthday to your blog!
in honor of your blog's 2nd birthday, i'm becoming a follower. ok...that's not really the only reason. you're blog is lovely and i've been reading for awhile...but i'm making it "official" :).
Wow! She is so pretty, and he wedding looked so pretty as well! Having bridesmades wear the same dress, can be a little mean in my opinion! I just stumbled across your blog and I love it so far!
i love, love, love that wedding. i'm torn about whether to have my bridesmaids wear all different colors in the same fabric, or stick to the same color scheme.
I think it's a great idea, I love the last photo of all the different coloured dresses, all minis though.
Thanks for your comment, your blog is great too! :)
i love it! this is something i'd totally love to do...i feel like my wedding will probably be far from traditional! :)
