Desperately Seeking Camera

I am in the market for a new camera.  I'm hoping to invest in a fancy-schmancy DSLR that I can use for years to come.  I'm often in awe of the focus and detail of photographs I see on other blogs, and thats what I am seeking, a camera that will allow me to really zoom, focus, and create art of out of life.

So...let's have it, your thoughts, recommendations, suggestions, and opinions.  If you do have any helpful hints, please let me know the make / model so I can research further!

The Canon Rebel is affordable and a good introductory SLR. My theory is that if I get a really complex one off the bat, I'll be too overwhelmed. I've had mine for about 2 years now and still love it!

If you're looking for something more mid-level, a 60D is supposed to be really nice.

I love my Canon Rebel. I've had it for almost 2 years now. It's been so much fun learning how to use it. I would highly recommend it.

Whatever camera you decide, go with camera body only and a 50mm 1.8 lens. The 50mm gives much better results than the kit lens.

All of the photographers say start with the cheapest camera and continue to upgrade your lenses first!

I haven't a clue, but I'm looking forward to seeing what you learn!

I have the Nikon D3100 and LOVE it! It's very easy to use and great for beginners like myself. I don't really know the different between Nikon and Canon - the main reason I went with the Nikon is my dad has all the fancy lenses so I get to borrow them! :)

i recently purchased a Canon Rebel and im loving it. i agree with the other commenter, you should get a 50mm 1.8 lens as one of your first lenses. your feet are the zoom. :)

the amount of detail you can get in each photo is great. im still learning how to work with natural light (my photos are always so dark!) but hopefully im getting better! spend the money on good lenses, not a camera body.

I'm in the Canon Rebel club too and have been really happy with it! It's pretty easy to use and not overwhelming.

I have the Canon Rebel T3i. I LOVE it. I spent a long time researching cameras before I bought one and found that both Canons and Nikons are great. I chose the Rebel T3i, because at the time it was the ONLY SLR camera that had the swival screen, meaning I could turn the screen around to video and see myself. I took a class to learn how to use it, but it just takes time and practice. Go to different camera stores and see how the different models feel in YOUR hand. Someone told me to do that and I did. I think thats important. Have fun and good luck! Looking forward to seeing your new pics!

I got a great Canon Rebel off Craigslist for a very decent price, and the guy even included a few lenses - awesome for a beginner like me!
