Easter Mail

Next year, I'm totally doing this for my out of town family + friends.
Easter egg love in the mail...
Wouldn't that be the best surprise?

DIY Cadbury Eggs

With Easter, comes one of my favorite candies from childhood: Cadbury eggs. Yes, the milk chocolate, egg yolky cream-filled delicacies that no longer seem quite so delectable as an adult, well, those were were my favorite thing when I was little. This was the check-out line treat that would merit the "please mom, can I have one? Pretty please, with a cherry on top?" please.

While I'm not the biggest Cadbury egg fan as an adult, I still have a soft spot for these seasonal Easter candies and the memories they trigger. I'm intrigued to try these DIY Cadbury eggs at home - for old time's sake. :)

DIY Peeps

I love peeps. Yes, the uber sugary, fluffy marshmallow little chicks, doused in granulated sugar. Normally I'm a chocolate girl all the way! Crunchy sugary marshmallows are not typically a candy I would gravitate toward, but peeps are somehow quintessentially Easter. Or maybe I'm just conjuring up memories of Easter baskets past.

Lately, I've been seeing DIY marshmallows all over the blog scene, and quite honestly, I never really knew you could make your own marshmallows before I was so enlightened. I guess I always assumed marshmallows were one of those processed wonder foods you could only buy prepackaged. But Martha Stewart has a DIY peep or "easter critter," recipe I'm tempted to try. Let's see if I get around to trying these before Easter...

Anyone ever made DIY marshmallows before? Is it easy/difficult?

Cathodox

It's Friday once again. This weekend is the second annual "Cathodox," a holiday created by my group of friends to collectively celebrate both Catholic and Greek Orthodox Easter...basically an excuse to get together, drink, eat, and be merry!

Since most of my friends fall into one of these religious categories we created this holiday as an excuse to revive all those Easter dishes of childhoods past, pair it with some tasty vino, and have ourselves an awesome evening. Looking forward to the second annual year, Cheers!

Multifunctional Coffee

Do you take coffee with your...lamb?Yes, yes, I know it sounds rather odd - coffee braised lamb. Believe it or not, this was the dish we dined upon for Easter dinner, and though it sounds rather peculiar, it was delicious! And truth be told, I'm not a huge lamb fan to begin with, so I was wary from the start. But the meat was so tender, it literally just fell off the bone. And the coffee actually provided a surprisingly rich, decadent glaze.

Feeling adventurous - here's the recipe. Indulge! You won't be disappointed.

Did You Find The Golden Egg?

Every Easter growing up, my family hosted an annual Easter Egg hunt and brunch. We'd have dozens of families and their kids over, dressed in their Easter finest. Each family was asked to bring 10-20 plastic eggs filled with treats. After we'd all eaten brunch, and had our fill of Easter treats, the parents would close the blinds and scamper outside to hide the eggs.

Meanwhile, indoors, the oldest kids would supervise a gaggle of small children, until we heard the call that everything was hidden. Now, somewhere among all the hidden colorful eggs was a single golden egg. The golden egg was the coveted egg, the winner of which would get an enormous plush stuffed animal (a nice one too, like F.A.O. Schwartz caliber)...

I never did find the golden egg, my sister Katie did once, much to every other child's chagrin. But it was always a fun Easter tradition. Did any of you go egg hunting yesterday? Anyone happen to find a golden egg?

Easter brunch, lunch, and then Easter dinner. I am so stuffed, I attempted to go running, but it was an unsuccessful endeavor...

Cheep Cheep

I think I have an addiction to holiday arts and crafts. I was on a green St. Patrick's kick and now I am captivated by all things Easter. How cute are these? Honestly I can't even imagine trying to model this project in a classroom...but for those of you with patient, responsible children, might be a fun activity to try at home!

Easter is Near!

My mom always goes all out when it comes to holiday decor. I grew up having friends whose parents, though festive, only put up decorations for the "big holidays," i.e. Thanksgiving and Christmas. But at my house, my Mom invested in ALL of them, Valentines Day brought 'round hearts, cupids, X's and O's...St. Patrick's Day shamrocks and leprechauns, and Easter - eggs and bunnies galore! I've been trying to infuse my new apartment with a few Easter touches...this Easter egg tree is my next hopeful project.
