B for Boleyn

The notoriously unpredictable Seattle weather was in true form this weekend. My mini road-trip with friends to the tulip fields an hour north of Seattle was postponed due to Spring showers. In lieu of our outdoorsy jaunt, my friend Carrie and I decided to go see the movie, The Other Boleyn Girl. The movie was pretty good, Natalie Portman is as much a devious vixen as Scarlett Johansson is sweet and demure. My favorite part was probably the costumes, some of these headdresses were so elaborate and detailed, they almost resembled mini wedding cakes atop the characters heads.

One thing I noticed while watching the film was this suspiciously modern necklace donned by Anne Boleyn (Portman) for the majority of the film. Reminiscent the Tiffany letter pendant necklaces, Anne wore a pearl choker adorned with the letter "B" for Boleyn. Well I did some googling, and turns out this choker was indeed historically accurate, contrary to how it may appear on Portman (see above)...the modern looking choker was even included in Anne Boleyn's portrait. While it's not really my style, I find it an intriguing piece of jewelry, and for the history enthusiasts, I have come to know that replicas are plentiful online. This "B" even shows up in pop culture on TV character Ugly Betty!
For your own collection, Duchessa on etsy has a few versions that are spot on!

Show-And-Tell: Part 2

I always appreciate a good food blog. I convince myself that I will recreate these delicious, mouthwatering recipes tomorrow...or the next day...or perhaps next week, basically hoping that one day in this century, I will find the time and have the necessary ingredients available to make it happen.

A new food blog I've been scoping out is You Say Tomato...I Say Tomato. A smattering of entrees, appetizers, soups, and desserts...all of which fall into my category above (recipes I one day hope to use)...Guinness & honey spare ribs, thai noodle soup, and cannolis...oh my!

Clip It

Today my students and I went on a class field trip, as an extension to our social studies curriculum. As a means to stay organized, I had all my field trip info, class list, and emergency contacts easily accessible on my handy-dandy clipboard...just in case. While our school clipboards are plentiful and definitely get the job done, it got me thinking that such a useful tool could use a little pizazz...

A Ha! My new spring break project is now going to be jazzing up one of my generic brown clipboards! Suddenly inspired, I began thinking of ways I could add a little individuality to an item I use so frequently in the classroom. And since my inspiration was running low, I turned to etsy, and searched my item of choice. Voila! Creative clipboards at your service. I especially love this one by vintagescraps! image/etsy

Don't Forget the Clutch

When sustainable materials meets attractive accessory, you know you've encountered a winning pair. Meet Heather Heron, handbag and clutch designer whose products boast organic, durable waterproof material, sturdy with a finish that resembles linen. Even I did a double-take upon viewing Heather Heron's intro on Daily Candy - "Wait what?? These are organic??" What do you know - they are!

Show-And-Tell

I'm likening today to a blog version of show-and-tell. My stars of the week include Miss Jane (see below), and Snippet & Ink - a wonderful blog featuring daily wedding inspiration, which I found via O Happy Day. I especially love how Snippet & Ink posts snapshot boards, essentially wedding collages; highlighting little details, creative decor, and the overall joy captured on the memorable day.

With all these upcoming weddings I'm involved in, we are still knee deep in planning, though the light at the end of the tunnel is slowly growing brighter.

It's A Small World After All

Wow, blogging is a smaller world than I ever thought. I entered this realm a little unsure of what to expect, but inspired by tech-savvy professors past, and friends who'd taken the leap into the blog arena. And all the while, throughout this new endeavor, I honestly did not expect to run into anyone I'd know...

Turns out, blogging is indeed a small world. I made the recent discovery that Miss Jane, one of my favorite blogs, is actually my friend Sara from high school! Talk about a small world! I came across Sara's blog via Alyson, designer du jour, who created both of our blog headings. Long story short...I messaged Sara, delivering quite the surprise, that not only are we blog friends, but high school friends as well, having spent many-a-Japanese class together.

So, here's to reacquainting with old friends, and please do yourself a favor and take the time to indulge in Sara's delightful blog.
