Travel Reading

We leave for Japan in less than 2 weeks (!!!!) and my friend and I are trying to get organized. We're pooling our books to make sure we have enough reading material for train rides and down time. Here's our list so far, any recommendations for what excellent reads we should add?

1. Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
2. The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake
3. The Heart of the Matter

Well, you should read the rest of the Stieg Larsson books! All three, girl with a dragon tattoo, the girl who played with fire and the girl who kicked the hornet's nest. It's a series :)

tales of a female nomad is one of my favorite books to give friends going on trips. it encourages you to really get out there and make relationships while you tour around, instead of just take photos, i think. have a wonderful trip!

Have a BLAST in Tokyo! I am reading Sloane Crosley's collection of essays "I Was Told There'd Be Cake." It's Sedaris-esque, except the author is a 30 year old female, so she writes about stuff like killing off her math teacher via dysentary while playing Oregon Trail. Very fun, light summer read.

Bon voyage!

Wow - trip to Japan sounds amazing! I'm reading Girl with a Dragon Tattoo right now, and it's a great vacation book. I agree with the previous commenter - go ahead and get the other books in the series. I just ordered mine! (The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake is on my nightstand too!)

Water for Elephants is one of my all-time favorite reads! Doesn't hurt that they're also making it into a movie with Robert Pattinson ;)

I recently finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo- I couldn't put it down! Emily Giffin is my favorite chicklit author and I can't wait to read her latest book. The books I've read recently that I recommend are Kristin Hannah's Firefly Lane, Jen Lancaster's Bitter is the New Black and anything by Malcolm Gladwell.

Have a great trip!

Since you're traveling to Japan, I think some Haruki Murakami would be appropriate! The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, Kafka on the Shore, or any of his books really.

Nick's mom told me told me "The Girl with a Dragon Tatoo" is good. I guess there's a movie that recently came out. I can't wait to hear about your trip when you get back!
