Blog Interview: The Southern Hostess

I'm so excited so have the chance to interview Natalie of The SoHo (The Southern Hostess) on my blog. She is a fellow Seattlite and her blog is one of my faves.

1. What is your current blog crush?
Aside from Lovely Little Things of course -- there are so many fantastic blogs that I have trouble visiting them all, but you are my fave (http://www.youaremyfave.com/) is a daily must.

2. If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money?
I would open a little restaurant/cafe with my parents. My dad is an amazing cook, and my mom and I could handle the desserts. It's something we've talked about for years. We just need a lottery level incentive.

3. What is your favorite movie? Why?
Tough one. Right now, I'll say Almost Famous. Cameron Crowe is my absolute favorite director, and I love everything about this movie -- the dialogue, the music, Penny Lane's coat.

4. What quotation best reflects you and what you’re all about?
A line from another Cameron Crowe film, Vanilla Sky. "Every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around." It's on my refrigerator.

5. What is your favorite thing to smell cooking in the kitchen?
Cornbread baking in the oven.

6. What is the most beautiful place you’ve ever seen?
There was something about Montana that was magical. The wide open sky, the wildflowers, the vastness of the place.

7. If you could grow up in a different era, what would it be and why?
Based solely on fashion and The Great Gatsby, the 1920s.

8. If your life were a movie, what song would play during opening credits?
"Walls" by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers

9. What is something that always makes you smile?
My husband's interpretative and/or hip-hop dancing. It's the funniest thing in the world to me.

10. What goal do you have for yourself? Something you want to do in this lifetime.
So I have three. I want to write and take pictures for the rest of my life, whether I get paid for it or not. I want to live in New York again. And I want to find the world's most comfortable sleeper sofa.

Blog Interview - Lost in Translation

Thank you to Vivian of the lovely blog Lost in Translation for participating in my 2nd ever blog interview. I absolutely adore Vivian's blog, being a teacher myself, I've thoroughly enjoyed reading about her experiences teaching abroad and traveling throughout Korea and various parts of Asia. I asked Vivian a few questions and here are her candid responses.

1. What quotation best reflects you and what you’re all about?

{I definitely don't want to be remembered as "the girl who didn't go to Paris"... remember that episode from The Hills? My worst nightmare}.

2. What is your current blog crush?

I always have more than one crush! Blog Goggles {http://bloggoggles.blogspot.com/} for being so hilarious and stylish. Just a Girl in a City {http://kelly-braden.blogspot.com/} for brightening up my daily life. Des in Real Life {http://des08.blogspot.com/} for introducing me to new movies and music. And so many more.

3. If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money?

Make a movie. And travel the world. I'd go back to Seoul, to visit my friends. Go back to Japan. Go to South Africa and New Zealand, and to Scandinavia.

4. What is your favorite movie? Why?

Lost in Translation (surprise, surprise). Because it made me fall in love with Asia.... because it reminds me of it... and because I can relate to the main character's vulnerability.

5. What is your favorite thing to smell cooking in the kitchen?

A strawberry shortcake on a hot summer night.

6. What do you miss most about childhood?

Playing with My Little Pony, spending summer afternoons in the pool, and ballet.

7. What is the most beautiful place you’ve ever seen?

The old, mysterious back streets of Kyoto, lined with tea houses.

8. If your life were a movie, what song would play during opening credits?

"Into the Groove(y)" by Ciccone Youth. It's a Madonna cover by Sonic Youth, but it's stylish and avant-garde, and I just love it.

LLT's First Blog Interview

I'm kicking off the first (of hopefully many) blogger interviews. Since I started my blog a little less than a year and a half ago, I've had the privilege of discovering so many other intriguing, inspiring, and creative bloggers in this blog world we all know and love. My first blog interview is with Thao of the lovely Prosecco and Lemonade.

1. What quotation best reflects you and what you’re all about? "I believe that man will not merely endure. He will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance."--W. Faulkner (I hold on to this belief as well, especially now, during these times.)

2. What is your current blog crush? I don't know how she does it, but Hello, Lolla always finds the most beautiful, inspiring images. And she happens to be eloquent to boot!

3. If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money? I would pay off my student loans immediately. And then I would buy a little beach house with a guest cottage and encourage our friends and family to visit. We'd spoil them as much as possible. Dan and I would take walks in the warm sand, our skin salty-sticky from the sea, and we'd learn to sail. In the afternoons, he'd play guitar on the front porch while I read curled up in my daybed. When it rains, we'd make guacamole and drink Prosecco until we're warm and giddy and inspired. And when we get restless, we'd just pack a suitcase and go jet-setting wherever we pleased.

4. What is your favorite movie? Why? I know it's a cliche, but I adore Casablanca. There's just something about an old black and white movie: the rich roundness of the picture, the glowy quality of the faces, the twinkly slow music and the succinct dialogue. Then you add an exotic locale, drunk expatriates, Peter Lorre, and fierce French patriotism? It's a winner.

5. What is your favorite thing to smell cooking in the kitchen? Every time I go home to visit, my grandmother makes a big batch of chili pepper crabs. They're so spicy and aromatic--and the taste is even better than the smell.

6. What do you miss most about childhood? I miss the moments before falling asleep, when my dreams were so close that they were practically real. I would lay there imagining that I was flying through treetops or riding dinosaurs--my dream life was so much fun. Now I tend to run through the day's worries before I go to sleep, which is not fun at all.

7. What is the most beautiful place you’ve ever seen? In Vietnam, I once climbed these rickety rope bridges to get to a huge waterfall in the middle of the mountains. High stone walls encircled the pool at the bottom and it created this quiet piece of Paradise. It was so beautiful that beautiful seems like a trivial word for it.

8. If your life were a movie, what song would play during opening credits? Joni Mitchell's All I Want.
