Pants ≠ Capris

I needed this at my sewing class last night! Sewing class: Part 2 was a success. Unfortunately the girl at the fabric store short changed me with fabric, and I ended up with pajama capris instead of pajama pants, but what can you do? I'm beginning to wonder, why does this always happen to tall people like myself? I specifically made a point to explain to the salesgirl I might need extra fabric because of my height. Call me crazy, but I was actually looking forward to one of lifes little luxuries, extra fabric to cover my ankles. Alas, not this time, guess I'll settle for yet another pair of capris...

My capris actually turned out excellent, and they're fairly fitted and attractive as pajama pants, part of which I attribute to my excellent blue and grey polka dot pattern.

Sew and Tell

Last night I took a sewing class on how to make pajama pants. My friend Philly and I are in the process of becoming sewing masters, or at least acquire the skills to successfully use a machine independently. We took the tote bag class back in November, and this is our next step in building our sewing skills. My ultimate goal is to sew my own quilt, but I'm not quite there yet. Oh and one perk of the class, which does give me that extra inspiring push - we're sewing our pant projects on the Project Runway brand sewing machines, pretty cool huh?

I'll keep you posted how they turn out!

Sewing Class

Did I tell you I'm taking a sewing class? I've finally decided it's high time I learn how to use a sewing machine. My friend Philly and I signed up for a 2-day introductory class at a local sewing shop, where at the end of our two day endeavor, we've created our very own tote bag. Tonight's the second and final night of the class, and hopefully my hemmed scraps will successfully turn into a usable bag. I'll keep you posted on how it goes!

Summer To-Do List

Only 3 more days of school! With the closing of one year comes goodbyes and sadness to bid my wonderful class adieu. Mixed with those nostalgic feelings are those of excitement as the summer season dawns and we welcome lazy days, sleeping in, working out on a consistent schedule, and of course, catching up on my ever-lengthening to-do list.

Here's what's up for the summer (in addition to my big trip to Japan, of course):

1. Go to the zoo
2. Enjoy Sunday BBQ at new Seattle eatery Joule
3. Make Julia Child's Boeuf Bourguignon
4. Have my grandma teach me how to make a pie
5. Take a class (sewing, sailing, croissant-making?...)

I'm sure there will be many more additions to come, but this is my starting 5. I'll keep you posted on how I do. What's on your summer to-do list?

Sew Much To Learn

I've decided I need to learn how to sew. Yes, my blog friends, I admit...I'm 27 and aside from a basic needle and thread, I have no sewing skills (gasp!). I know, I know, it's a little pathetic. I'm tired of defaulting to my tailor for alterations when I could be saving money by taking the time to learn how to effectively use a sewing machine.

Since I'm eager to take on this new hobby/skill, I've been perusing websites in the Seattle area looking for good sewing classes for beginners. Any tips for how to kick off my domestic journey?
