Trick or Treat...or Tweet

Modern day trick-or-treating compliments of the New Yorker.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween my lovelies. It's a brisk, clear day here in Seattle, perfect trick-or-treating weather. Today I spent the morning recovering from yesterday's tough loss. My girlfriends and I tailgated like champs in the pouring down rain - followed by a game that was a soggy, ugly mess, but we had fun nonetheless.

This afternoon we scrubbed the house - a "fall cleaning," if you will, followed by an afternoon of relaxation, football, and munchies, as we wait for nightfall to descend and the emergence of trick-or-treaters. Happy Halloween!

What are your Halloween plans?

Trick or TREAT

A frappucino might just be the cutest Halloween costume ever!

Pumpkin Patch + Carving

Two weekends ago my bf and I took advantage of the gorgeous October sunshine and ventured to the local pumpkin patch. It was apparently a popular Sunday activity as the patch was teeming with small children, but we moseyed through the rows and picked two supremely perfect pumpkins (in my humble opinion).

We didn't get around to carving the pumpkins until last week - but here they are! Mine is the cat, his is supposed to have crazy eyes sticking out it's tongue, though we thought it kind of ended up looking like a lunatic with a goatee. Go figure! Good times pumpkin carving!

Halloween Woes

It's a week before Halloween and I have no idea of what to be, and time is quickly running out. And, I've been so busy with parent-teacher conferences that I haven't even had a chance to stop into a local costume store to take a gander at the slim pickings still left on the rack. (Insert heavy sigh here). I need some serious help! Any ideas on quality costumes can I throw together without spending a ton of money?

I just can't be that teacher who comes to school without a costume on Halloween!

Pumpkins Galore

I love the pop of orange pumpkins. I love the way they add that bright splash of color to neighbors front porches and stoops, and their presence just declares it's fall! And I especially love seeing the creative flair pumpkins can lend themselves to. Here are a few of Martha's best ideas for how to spice up the everyday pumpkin for Halloween.

Costume Ideas

First off, don't you just love this photo? As an avid Harry Potter fan - if I had a kid and a dog, I'd totally dress them up as HP and Fluffy the 3-headed dog from "The Sorcerer's Stone."

What are you dressing up as Halloween? I need to find a school-appropriate costume as well as one a little less-appropriate I can wear to a grown-up party. Looking for Halloween inspiration...

Boo!

As fall descends, I find I'm already looking ahead to fall festivities like Halloween! Don't you love these table ghosties? Such a fun way to liven up your fall with festive ghosties whose faces double as salt and pepper shakers, but remove the cork and enable the pour factor. Excellent!

Balloon Fun

Being sick on Halloween is no fun, so I've resorted to planning a spectacular costume for next year. I stumbled upon these balloon costumes - pretty impressive! Check out these clever balloon costumes, but be careful not to pop!

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween weekend my dears!
Hope your evenings are full of spooktacular trick-or-treats!

Just Say Boo

Growing up my mom always did holiday-themed dinners. Thought this "BOO" pasta was hilarious. Arrange your noodles in cursive and bake until crisp, add atop a plate of spaghetti and scare the tomato out of your little one (or your hubby)...

Creepy Jello

Love the idea of adding spook to the party favorite - jello shots. Thanks to Sarah's Fab Day for passing along the clever idea. Add eye ball, brain, or creepy gummy candies to your fave jello flavor and voila! - the greatest Halloween party beverage ever!

Recipe below via Hostess with the Mostess

Creepy Jello Shots

1.5 cups boiling water
1 cups vodka
2 (8-oz) pkg. JELL-O Gelatin, any flavor

STIR boiling water into dry gelatin mix in large bowl at least 3 min. until completely dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool for a 3-5 minutes, then add vodka. Pour into 13×9-inch pan. Let mixture cool to room temperature, then add gummy candies. (Use a spoon to help guide gummies into the spot you want them, if desired.) Pour into 13×9-inch pan.

REFRIGERATE at least 3 hours or until firm.

DIP bottom of pan in warm water 15 sec. Cut jigglers into squares, making sure to cut all the way through gelatin to bottom of pan. Lift JIGGLERS® from pan. Store in tightly covered container in refrigerator.

I'm already excited for Halloween and it's barely October! Aren't these Halloween note cards adorable?

Orange You Beautiful

The air is crisp, autumn leaves of all colors litter the streets, and lately the moon seems brighter and higher in the sky. Doesn't it just feel like a pumpkin patch kind of day?

Mashed BOOtatoes

Leave it to Martha Stewart to take Halloween eats to a new level! Mashed BOOtatoes anyone?
Perhaps a side of lady fingers and man toes...(don't worry, they're just pretzels with almond fingernails...creepily creative huh?)
Finish off your meal with one of these monster creepcakes...images/marthastewart

Fanciful Fence

Loving this fanciful fence! Unfortunately it's not conducive to apartment living, but I like this totally doable, homespun look of a gourd garland. Perfect for a barn party or dance...question, do people really have those kinds of parties? I'm such a city girl, I seem to live vicariously through these types of festivities on TV...

Spook Season

October has arrived. Orange and black, ghosts and goblins will surely begin to surface within department stores within the day. Halloween is one of my favorite holidays to celebrate, simply because it lends itself to such creative decorations. There is much fun to be had in creating a ghoulish, spooky ambiance of your home, yard, even classroom! My girl Martha Stewart never ceases to amaze me with her unending vault of creativity to aptly provide a fright and a boo on All Hallows Eve.

Had I a yard, I might attempt the ghostly pumpkin lantern walk. I love the orange glow illuminated from the intricate carvings. Although I have to say, I think the spidered door is my favorite, as the unofficial "spider killer" in my household growing up. Both of my sisters are arachnophobic, and would shriek my name every time they encountered a spider, regardless how tiny and minuscule he might have been.

Anyone have any favorite Halloween decorations or traditions to share?
