Guess what?!
I got a new camera! Thanks to all of your advice, suggestions, and words of wisdom. I ended up going with a Nikon D5100, and I love it! My husband and I spent last weekend playing with our new toy, fiddling with settings, shutter speed, aperture...I feel like I need to learn a whole new language to understand all of it, but I'm excited!!
Now I am looking for any helpful advice on how to best understand and utilize my camera to its fullest. Any suggestions of books, youtube tutorials, or sites that you found helpful for getting to know your camera?

Take a class! It's the best way to maximize your camera investment. I found Okello Dunkley's workshops to be the best - www.dslrworkshops.com
Read the manual, get Nicole Gerulat's book photo 101, Kevin & Amanda are great resources too! http://www.kevinandamanda.com/whatsnew/tutorials/photography-tutorial-a-quick-guide-to-understanding-your-digital-slr-camera.html
The Pioneer Woman also has some helpful tips. But the best advice I can give, is just practice. Use all the settings until you figure them out. Can't wait to see all your new pictures!

Yay! I have a list of photography sites I use - I'll pass them your way!
