DVD Binge

Growing up, my dad cultivated an enormous movie collection.  I remember our weekly pilgrimage to Blockbuster Video, to walk and scour the perimeter of the store, tirelessly searching for a worthwhile, but appropriate new release to rent for us kids for the weekend.  At the checkout counter, he always perused the VHS/DVD for sale bins and we usually left with between 1-2 new movies to add to the collection on most trips.

Hence, I am a movie buff.  I love movies, especially oldie but goodie movies.  In recent years, I have found myself starting a substantial DVD collection of my own, which I attribute to affinity for movie-watching ingrained by my dad long ago.  When watching a flick and a friend mumbles, "Who is that guy, I think he's in something I've seen," I pride myself on being that person who can successfully make the movie-to-movie connection instantaneously (or at least reasonably fast)!  Yeah, I'm that girl, I know, I know, don't worry, I am aware that my actor and actress trivia and the ability to recite lines from movies is not favored by all... :)

Lately, I've been feeling a little ho-hum about my movie selection, and went on a bit of a DVD binge on amazon picking up some new flicks to add to my collection including...
 and
What are your favorite rainy-day, go-to, pick-me-up-when-you're-in-a-bad-mood, or just plain random FAVORITE MOVIES?  I'm dying to hear!

My dad had a huge collection too. He had a satellite and tons of movie channels too, so he'd record movies he liked. He owned all the John Wayne movies. I know Ghostbusters, Pretty in Pink - well, pretty much all John Hughes movies, and many others by heart as a result.
The two you added are good choices. When Harry Met Sally and Casablanca are two of my all-time favorites, but there are certainly many more.

I actually miss video stores. I loved perusing the shelves, trying to find the best movie.

Some of my favorites: The Sting, Sense & Sensibility, Roman Holiday, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Dumb & Dumber, The Big Lebowski, Waiting for Guffman, Four Weddings and a Funeral...just to name a few!

Both of those movies are fantastic! My two favorites (and total opposites- but revolve around the same theme of love) are "Pride and Prejudice" (the one with Keira Knightley) and "Moulin Rouge" (fun and you can sing along too)!!!

I'm exactly the same! My dad and I used to go DVD hunting all the time. I also love to be able to answer those questions so I completely get you!

My two movies depend on how I'm feeling. I always love a good indie like Lost in Translation, Garden State, Eternal Sunshine.

LOOOOVE You've Got Mail! It's really one of my favorite movies ever. One of those that I can watch over and over. Some other faves: Groundhog Day, The Wedding Singer, Pride and Prejudice, any '80s Molly Ringwald movie, Amelie, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Purple Rain, Clueless...I could go on for days.

You've Got Mail is one of my go-to movies! I also love the Wedding Date with Debra Messing, When Harry Met Sally, and Love Actually. But my absolute favorite is the original Parent Trap starring Haley Mills... whenever it came on tv while I was growing up my Mom and I would stop whatever we were doing and we would watch it together. I might just watch it again this weekend. :)

I can't believe you like Dan in Real Life! It is SERIOUSLY one of my all time favorite movies! I DVRed it one day and have never erased it. I am keeping it forever! Every time someone comes over and we feel like watching a movie, I insist on watching it if they haven't seen it! I could watch it a thousand times. It is just such a feel good movie!

i love being that girl! my roommates in college used to try and stump me but they never could. one day when i was bored, i rearranged my movies by lead actor. it was a fun game for people to see if they could figure out the connection. i really love notting hill and runaway bride. stardust is also a favorite but not many people like it.

I'm not a huge movie person, so I normally end up watching The Office on DVD... but one movie that I've seen more times than I can count would probably have to be How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days!

Happy Memorial Day!
