Friday Night Lights

In an effort to save money and make a conscious decision to watch less TV, my fiance and I recently cancelled our comcast subscription. No more cable, no more DVR, but it hasn't been all that bad, honestly. Instead, we bought a Roku, a small device that enables streaming from netflix, hulu, and the like. This is how, during our commitment to watch less TV, my fiance and I discovered Friday Night Lights.

The first episode is good, then the second, third, fourth...and while I haven't been a fan from the beginning, we quickly joined the Friday Night Lights cult. This show is truly addicting, I tell you! I mean, who couldn't love Eric and Tammy Taylor? Matt Saracen, Jason Street, and Tim Riggins (insert girlish swoon here), if boys had looked like that at my high school!

Truth be told, we've emotionally invested in this show, you'd think we'd been to Dillon, Texas! So despite our ploy to watch less TV, I think we've ended up investing more time following this series via roku. I guess our plan backfired, huh? All in all, I'd say it was worth it because it's now one of my all time favorite shows. You'd be surprised how many conversations we still have about the Taylor's, Buddy Garrity, and the panther gang.
Texas Forever.

  2. Oh, I already miss FNL! The world could use a little more Tim Riggins. You gotta love Coach and Tammy Taylor. Such a great show!

  3. We decided to scrap cable too. We have netflix streaming and a free trial of hulu plus...can't decide if it's worth it to keep yet. But I have been enjoying re-watching seasons of Grey's. I have Friday Night Lights in our Instant Queue. It's up after 30 Rock! But you are right, we are definitely watching more tv!

  6. We ditched cable for Hulu and Netflix we watch through our PS3. We watch more tv because we watch what we want to watch. FNL is on our to be watched list. Right now we're plowing through 30 Rock.

  7. I am crazy addicted too! I discovered all its wonder back in April and have been hooked ever since. I'm on season 4, which means I'm all that muc closer to the very end and I DO NOT want that to happen!!

I also watch Parenthood (nerdy guilty pleasure) and a lot of the cast of FNL appears on that show, it's weird (and vice versa - I saw Joel on an episode of FNL briefly and it totally weirded me out).

    Texas Forever!

  10. We cancelled cable earlier this year and have been using our laptops/PS3 to stream netflix and hulu. How do you like the roku?! I've been thinking about getting one for our home gym! We just started watching FNL too...we're only on the third episode but I love it! Also discovered via netflix/hulu and became instantly obsessed with: Parenthood, Modern Family, and Mad Men. Happy watching! ;)

  11. uh yes, we got totally addicted to FNL as well! I can't wait to get our tv up and running here so we can continue watching!! especially during the fall and winter as the nights get darker and you don't spend as much time doing fun things outside :)

  12. I heart FNL. When I discovered it, I watched about 4 episodes every day after work to catch up on Seasons 1 and 2. Then when I went to Cuba, my husband and I watched all of season three every night after dinner. We have to download seasons 4 and 5. I was sad to see it end but I did like how they gave closure. Did you hear they may make a movie?

Coach Taylor and Tami are my favorite TV couple. They are perfect role models for couples. I could name other couples I liked together but I am not sure if you have watched all the episodes. I wouldn't want to spoil it for you.
