The Name Game

You may have heard the news...Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick welcomed twin girls via surrogate yesterday...but did you hear the names?

...Marion Loretta and Tabitha Hodge...

Yes, yes, I realize old-fashioned names are the trend these days, believe me as an elementary school teacher I know, seeing as I have to add a last initial to all of the popular duplicate names (ie. Cole W., Cole G., Cole S., etc. etc.). Apparently Ferris Buehler and Carrie Bradshaw also bought into the fad.

Not my fave...Thoughts?

  1. i'm a twin. i love when other people have twins. but i am glad my parents did not give us hideous names. {not that i liked having the name georgia when i was young—it just led to lots of teasing}. but at least my parents did not name us holly and molly or something cutsey rhyming like that.

marion is not so bad, but i'm not too big on tabitha, especially with the middle name hodge. i'd say marion loretta got the better end of the deal. :)

  2. Haha, I didn't hear. Wow, those are more than old-fashioned, I'd say more old-timey...

Congrats on your new camera, and thanks for your nice words on my blog!

  3. I'm not super keen on old fashioned names but I do have a lot of love for family names and I think she had to have pulled Marion Loretta out of a family tree.

    I think Tabitha is precious.

Wonder if they will call them Tabi and Mari.

  8. Meh, not a big fan of the names, but like Nicole said, they're SJP's kids so they'll have a pretty sweet life. I'm sure they'll wear them well.

  9. I'm not the biggest fan of the names but I don't mind old fashioned names in general. I always think of Tabitha as a cat's name though.

  11. Tabitha is sweet, but the other names not so fond of them.
Marion can either be a boys name or a girls and not a fan.
It seems they named them after relatives that may have passed in their honour.

  12. Not a huge fan of Marion, though I do think Loretta is a pretty name. And I'm completely sold on Tabitha -- I think it's a beautiful name! I wonder if they're both named after other members of the family???

Either way, I can't disagree you on the fact that they're definitely a bit out dated!

  14. I read that some if not all of the make up of these names came from the family tree. Nice gesture . . . I guess.

  15. I like Marion, and Tabitha is ok. I try to ignore the middle names, as you wouldn't hear them day to day. Which is good news for Bronx Mowgli too...
