Big news here in Seattle! The Seattle City Council
voted to ban plastic bags in grocery stores and charge a 5-cent fee on paper bags. Looks like reusable bags for everyone is the way of the future!
I've already accrued my own stash of reusable tote bags, but I guess I shall be investing in some more! I already have my eye on
this one...
In Washington D.C. they charge 5 cents a bag. It really discourages my use of bags, so congrats to Seattle!
ReplyDeleteGood for Seattle! That was one thing I really loved about Seattle. Everyone seems to care about the environment so much more. I wish Cleveland would do something like this!
ReplyDeleteSo good! I hope i remember to bring all my reusable bags.
ReplyDeleteWow, I didn't know this! Love it... I just need to start bringing my reusable bags back out to the car when I'm done with them. I always forget them! :) xo
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Santa Cruz is on the way to reusable-only, and you posted a totally cute alternative! Have a happy plastic-free day ;)
ReplyDeleteThis makes me so happy!! I wish every city would do this!
ReplyDeletePortland did this a few months ago and I was also really excited, I just wish they would have added the charge for paper bags.
ReplyDeleteOh I hadn't heard this yet! Yay!
ReplyDeleteawesome! i know that we're working on that here in oregon. hope we get it done!
ReplyDeleteI was so excited to read about this! I have a kajillion Whole Foods bags and I love them -- it probably only took me a few trips to finally remember to bring them with me to the store, plus the bags fit so much more than the stupid plastic ones our grocer uses (and more durable than the paper ones!).
ReplyDeletegreat incentive to make re-usable bags a habit. i need more so thanks for the link. love the gray and yellow, treating my family to a set tomorrow.
ReplyDeletei mix it up--i use bags and once a month i get the plastic. i recycle them to pick up dog poo or other things.
ReplyDeletesan francisco did that last year. i actually like ony usuing brown bags. and it helps me remember to brig my own bags from home
