I've heard you can submerge waterlogged electronics in rice to absorb some of the moisture, but I figure after a thorough rinse cycle, I'm S.O.L. Bummer.
So as I'm reflecting back on how I actually let this happen, and feeling like a total arse, wondering how the heck did I forget to take said ipod out of my pocket?!? Grr... Am I alone in this careless mistake, has this ever happened to you?

bummer is right! i'd try the rice anyway... leave it in there for a few days. my phone went for a swim a couple of years ago and although it was never exactly the same afterwards, it was usable for a long time after the rice trick.
ReplyDeleteand yes, i've washed things. in my first load of post-honeymoon laundry as a new wife, my husband's passport went through. it still kills me, but i chalked it up to a learning experience!
I did this with my cellphone once. Ohhh I was pissed. That sucks. I'm sorry to hear it. Your not alone. My boyfriend did this a while back. He wears black pants to work and has a black ipod....yeah...he never saw it. I hope you have a warranty or accidenital insurance still left on it! =)

Hello, I'm new to your blog - I followed the link from Summer Harms' comments section! I hope you don't mind me popping in to say hi.
ReplyDeleteAs I read the line, '...I'm reflecting back on how I actually let this happen...' I thought to myself, 'she sounds like a teacher!', so was quite excited to see on your profile that I was right! I'm currently training to be a Primary School teacher (in England), and am all too familiar with reflecting on everything I do!

I am so sorry for you!
ReplyDeleteMy husband just destroyed his cellphone in the exact same way! He hadn't done the laundry in months (it's always me who does it) but I was away for the weekend and he was feeling all domestic. Bet he doesn't do laundry again for at least a year. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing to run through the wash is cherry chapstick... for whatever reason I'm always forgetting to take it out of my pocket and my laundry comes out spotted with pink greasy blotches. Ugh! And no matter how many times I check my jeans pockets, I still seem to manage to do it on a regular basis.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the ipod, love the blog.
I'm so sorry to hear this. Maybe the Genius Bar at the Apple Store could have some advice.
ReplyDeleteOver Thanksgiving break I was walking along the beach with my iPod in hand. Apparently I was swinging my arms a little too vigorously because I literally swung my iPod into the ocean. I feel your pain! I still haven't replaced it because I'm so mad at myself!
ReplyDeleteStill try the rice! I've had friends recover fully submerged cameras, major spills on laptops and somehow they survive. It's worth a try right??
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
That seriously stinks! Definitely try the rice, you'd be surprised at how well it works. I've dropped my cell phone more than once in a lake, toilet, you name it, I'm a klutz. The rice trick is your best bet!
