Has anyone read this series? In search of something to read on the plane, I picked up a copy of Stieg Larsson's critically acclaimed book The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Truth be told, the book is a little hard to get into, the plot leaps and bounds all over the place before finally settling into a groove of an understandable plot, but once that happens, it's such an intense, suspenseful ride.
Keep in mind these books are thoroughly intense, and include some depictions of gruesome, graphic violence, but even so, the story continues to be one of those I-can't-put-it-down type of thriller. I finished the 1st novel on the plane heading home from Japan, and was glued to the second book, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and am now onto the 3rd book of the Lisbeth Salander saga, The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest.
Has anyone else read these? What are your thoughts?
My friend read that one and she said pretty much what you said...I will give it a try...I hope I will like it:)

i read that on vacation and i can't wait to get my hands on the second and third! I agree, the first 100 pages are hard to get into, but it sets up the rest of the book, which is a page turner! definitely a book I would recommend!
ReplyDeleteI saw the movie and I loved it. I heard the same thing about the beginning of the book. It jumps alot & gets lost in that trial but once over that hump your hooked!! It's on my to-do list!!
ReplyDeleteI've been hearing a lot about them lately but haven't read them. I need to add them to my library hold list.
ReplyDeleteI've read the first 2 and waiting to read the 3rd. The first book is a little slow to start but wow it improves. I love the series and looking forward to the conclusion!
ReplyDeletei've been wanting to get into them but haven't had time yet. one person told me the writing was absolutely horrible! but that was one out of a million who love it! i'm looking forward to getting hooked. :)
ReplyDeleteI've never read it but I've heard the same thing about the book from people I know who've read it.
ReplyDeleteI saw the movie a couple of months ago at the theater (It's now an instant movie on Netflix if you have Netflix) and am planning to see The Girl Who Played With Fire which is currently playing at indie theaters.
Yep - agreed completely. Very intense and entertaining once you get into it. I wasn't as drawn to the characters though and haven't felt a pull to read the next books in the series. Too many other great books on my nightstand, perhaps. Or I think these are better travel books than reading-before-bed books.
ReplyDeleteI havent read this! Maybe I'll give it a try. :)
ReplyDeleteI have read all three. Love them! The first one was hard to get into, I think around page 70 is when I really got hooked.
ReplyDeleteThere is a rumor that there is going to be a (US version) movie next year with Daniel Craig.
Have you read anything about Stieg Larsson? Very interesting!
im on the second one right now, which so far i like better than the first.
ReplyDeleteI saw the movie, which is very good, and my friend - a big fan of Stieg Larsson says that book is better than a movie. So maybe one day I will read it.
ReplyDeleteI have yet to read the series, but am so looking forward to getting to it soon. I've heard rave reviews from those who have read them and am so excited. Safe travels.

They are great - and unlike some other series that disappoint towards the end, I just felt they kept getting better!
ReplyDeleteI've heard the book is amazing! I'm looking for a fun summer read, so will definitely check it out!

i read the first book and had the same thoughts. once i was in it, though, i didn't want to do anything but read. i love books like that. i'm waiting for book #2 from the library and the movie from blockbuster. can't wait to see what they do with the american movie version.
ReplyDeleteI oddly just got #2 at the library, but never got #1. Ahh, such a predicament!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE these books! I devoured the 1st and 2nd and am waiting before I get into the 3rd. I had a friend who just couldn't get past the graphic descriptions, but I remind myself that they are just a story. I agree that the first one took a while to find its rhythm. I'm now reading "What is the What" which is kind of the same way.
ReplyDeleteI just started it....
ReplyDeleteim in need of a new book - maybe ill read this xxxx
ReplyDeletetruth be told, i have never read any of these books. i don't usually go for best sellers- but the story of stieg larsson is just so intriguing. did you know he died of a major heart attack at age 50 before his work was ever published?
ReplyDeleteI have read all three in the series. I thought they were quick easy reads, but awkward and obvious in their plot. I also found all the technology references annoying. Even with those complaints I found them entertaining in that grocery store novel sort of way. But I don't think they live up to all the hype they have gotten.
