I was feeling under the weather this weekend. Perfect timing, right? 4 days of school left and I catch a cold. Brilliant! Anyway, during my time being sick on the couch, I caught up on my Netflix. I've been on the waitlist for the Meryl Streep/Alec Baldwin movie It's Complicated for a while now, and it finally arrived. The movie was okay, but my favorite part was when Meryl Streep and Steve Martin share a romantic date after hours at her bakery, laughing and enjoying each others company as they make croissants. First of all, the scene was lovely, the setting, the music, etc. etc.
But secondly, croissant-making is quite a cool process! I had no idea! Chocolate croissants (pain au chocolat) may be my all-time favorite pastry and watching the process unfold on the silver screen was enchanting. Makes me want to learn how to make croissants!

ReplyDeleteI lOVE croissants, especially almond ones :) mmmmmmmmmm
ReplyDeleteMy mom, who is really good in the kitchen, decided to make croissants once....after watching an episode of Julia Childs. I was pretty young, but I still remember it. It took like 2 days!!! But they were awesome. But that was the only time she made them.
ReplyDeleteNo way! I read your title "Croissant Lesson" and thought instantly of It's Complicated, which I just saw for the first time on Saturday night! Totally my favourite part of the movie... I loved her bakery and that entire scene was just lovely, and mouth-watering!
ReplyDeleteYes I've heard it's a very long process, but one I would love to learn too!
ReplyDeletei loved that movie!! and the crossants!! man i didnt know so much work went into them!!
ReplyDeleteI still haven't gotten around to seeing this movie but it looks so cute! I love chocolate croissants too. I guess I'm going to have to learn to make them because my favorite little bakery down the street went out of business! My Friday morning tradition was always getting a choc croissant and a coffee before class. If you find a good recipe, please share!
ReplyDeleteI have yet to see this movie, but I do want to... although I was wondering if it would be a hit or miss in terms of how good it was. It looks funny, and I may just see it for the croissant scene now! :)
ReplyDeleteMaking croissants is on my to-do list for this year - no joke! Lets do it sometime! Seriously!!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen the film but that scene sounds super fun! I'm sure my mum once got croissant dough in a can, all you had to do was form them and bake them. Sounds like a crazy thing to get in a can now I think about it!
ReplyDeletein the mood for a fun light hearted movie. thanks for the "lovely little" reminder. i'm so ready to watch this again!
ReplyDeletep.s. when you have a little time...a dreamy read on "croissants", enjoy!

This was by far my favorite scene ... I watched it over and over. And if you want a homemade chocolate croissant recipe head over to my blog ... they turned out magically. I was smitten by Meryl in this movie. xo
