In the spirit of recognizing the upcoming untimely end of Gourmet magazine, I took a cruise around their website and stumbled upon an article detailing popular 1990's cocktails. I passed by the martinis, gimlets, and pink champagne and landed on a drink that sounded quite perfect for autumn - mulled cider with calvados. Initially I thought, that sounds good...but what is calvados?
One google search later and I've discovered that calvados is a French form of cider distilled from speciality selected apples - sounds delicious huh? I just might have to track me down some calvados and try this one at home on a cold fall night.

I must thank you for always posting the most delightful foods and drinks.... mmmmm calvados.
ReplyDeleteso they'll be shutting down the website, too? I hadn't even thought that far.

Hmm I have never heard of that either, but it does sound good!
ReplyDeleteSomething else you can try if you just want cider and don't have calvados: Cider Lager. Just simmer some cider over the stove, remove from heat when hot, fill a glass/mug halfway, then pour room temperature Octoberfest or Amber Lager Ale type beer in to top. Throw an apple wedge in, and voila! It's really quite good!
ReplyDeleteCalvados is delicious! Try Camembert au Calvados. A Camembert dipped in it... AMAZING.
ReplyDeleteHi Michelle! I just wandered onto your page linked from another blog I was reading. Small world! I have my own blog too - lindseyjm.blogspot.com Hope you're doing well!
