Ready for the Power?

My sister has turned me onto Power or "Vinyasa" yoga. While we were in the Croatian countryside, we spread out our beach towels and I attempted to follow her as she led me through a series of fluent poses (harder than it looked, let me tell you)... It seems that power yoga is essentially yoga without the reflective pauses, one motion flows into the next, focusing a lot of strength and flexibility. Since I've been back I've begun researching power yoga in my area, and am looking into take an intro class with a friend of mine this fall. While my sister raves about it, she is kind of a fitness freak, so I'm looking for some opinions about this particular breed of yoga. Anyone ever tried it? image/moderngirlstyle

  1. no, I've never tried this type of yoga. I found yoga very boring. I like a more active, energic type of gym, like dance gym. I've been doing it for the last year and I love it!

  2. Yes, I've tried it!! It's quite the workout. A bit too "rough" for my taste, as I prefer something smoother like Ashtanga, which is relaxing and intense.

  5. I started Power Yoga a year ago with a friend and fell in love!! I am not into lifting weights but this was an alternative that had me showing off my guns.. ok maybe not my guns but my strength improved. Go for it... you will love, love how you feel afterwards!!!

  6. I got into power yoga years ago and I absolutely love it!
I'm one of those people who has a hard time shutting down and relaxing because my brain is going a mile a minute. Something about the intensity of power yoga and the continuity of the flow allows my mind to completely let go and I can focus on my breathing. It's perfect for me.

  10. I just started doing a beginner yoga class at my gym and it is so embarassing! The much older people in the class can definitely out hold and out pose me, haha. i want to get into Bikram (hot) yoga, and I figured I should learn a little more first. I like the idea of power yoga, since I do it more for the flexibility and strenghtening than for the meditation and relaxing effects!

  11. I really like it! It can be difficult, but there's no shame in resting (or giggling when you wobble). After, you feel the good burn.

  12. I love Vinyasa. I started doing it when I was in college but really got into it last summer. it's so invigorating. my favorite part is seeing results in flexibility. I think back to how I was when I first started and I'm quite pleased!
